Welcome to the Advocates' Peru Tour website.

Here you can keep up to date with the activities of our group of advocates as we travel to Peru from the 5th to the 16th of February 2008 to see the work of Compassion.
Advocates are sponsors with a heart for our ministry who volunteer some of their time on an ongoing basis to promote Compassion in their churches and within their spheres of influence.

The team will spend time meeting staff and children in projects, visiting the homes of Compassion sponsored children, seeing how the country office operates and meeting formerly sponsored children. We will try to update the site each day whilst we are in Peru and we hope you find it interesting. Enjoy!

What a laugh!

The custom in Peru is to put toilet paper in the waste bin in the bathroom and not into the toilet bowl, this avoids blocking up poor quality plumbing.

(Found that on a website!)

Hi this is Lyn.
Like everyone really looking forward to Peru ,(a place I have always wanted to go to but no visit to Machu Picchu a shame) although a little nervous as well, particually about the altitude & possible side effects from that. Want very much to see the work first hand so I can speak from experience.
Still have to sort out injections but hope most will be covered from other trips. What has been advise on malaria tablets?

Just sayin' hello

Hi all.
I'm Alastair - but you can call me Al - like the Paul Simon song! I live in Lisburn, Northern Ireland and I am delighted to have the opportunity to be going to Peru with Compassion. I have been an Advocate just over a year. My wife Ruth and I sponsor a girl in Peru and I am really looking forward to meeting her. I'm also looking forward to meeting you all on 5 February and swapping stories. Tim was asking about the innocluations - I'm not sure - I just told my Doctor where I was going and he gave me 2 jabs containing a multitude of stuff. I have to go back in January for Yellow Fever and also get Malaria Tablets. Your own Doctor would have your own history and will know if you need something specific or just a booster.
Anyway, I'll catch up with you all soon. God bless you and your families for the great Kingdom work you're involved in.
Al.
Hello everyone! I am really looking forward to going to Peru with you all to see the amazing work that Compassion is doing there. I've not been outside of Europe before so it is going to be a real adventure for me! I've just booked my yellow fever vaccination and now I'm wondering whether I'm going to need a dengue fever vaccination as well - any advice would be much appreciated! See you soon.

I'm new!

Hi everyone - I am Anne and I am Clare's new assistant.
I will be joining Clare mid January and will meet you all in my 3rd week on the job.
I am very excited to be involved with Compassion and all that it does. I think it is going to be a fantastic experience both to see current projects at work and to meet some formerly sponsored children. It will be very interesting for me to learn what it was like to be a sponsored child and the difference it has made to their lives. It will give a real sense of what it is all about.
I am also looking forward to meeting all of you, who are I believe, a group of really special people.
In anticipation of a brilliant trip.
All good wishes and happy packing!
See you in February.
Anne

Hi everyone

Hope you're all doing well and looking forward to our trip! Do take a moment to post a short message introducing yourself and letting us know your hopes and expectations for the tour.

I'll see you all bright and early at Gatwick in a few weeks time!

Every blessing
Clare (Advocacy Manager at Compassion)
